Harry Potter, theres a reason its the best selling frnachise of all time (in any genre)

Why do people associate sales with quality? Twilight is also an immensely popular franchise, does that make it good? Hannah Montana is huge, does that make it good?

Harry Potter is the iPod of the book world, it started getting buzz and became the must have item in books. There were and have always been better alternatives than iPod and there are books (many, many of them) that are vastly superior to Harry Potter, this does not stop them from selling insanely.

Sales = quality is a false statement imo. The best selling car in France for nine years running was the Citroen 2CV, for those who don't know; it was and is utter shit as a product.

To me, Harry Potter is hype, the cool kids in school start reading it so the drones start reading it etc. To compare the movies to Lord of the Rings (as someone already mentioned) is heresy at its worst, despite the book being long-winded and sometimes plain boring, the movies are sensational in most people's opinion and are a product of love, devotion and extremely hard work, not quick cash-in's to ride the wave of a commercially successfull series of books (in fact; it was the other way around for these movies, the movies spurred sales of the book like never before).
