The N64's rep was always some of the best mega games and then a bit of a fall off in library.  If those mega games aren't the majority of million sellers I'd be pretty shocked. 

But twelve?  Just seems insane for a 2nd/3rd place system, I mean even PSP won't ever manage that and it's already sold nearly 3 times what N64 did. :/

Such is Nintendo's franchises, I'd say.  Sometimes people do literally buy their systems just for those games lol.
