CGI-Quality said: I doubt the reviews had much of an impact on GT5's sales, which are fantastic btw. Just because people over predicted doesn't mean the end result is bad. 1.1 mill was within reason, my own being 1.2-1.5 mill. The data I was going on was for at least 5 days too. GT5's numbers in EMEAA & Japan is for 4, not to mention that GT5 is above GT4 in EMEAA. That's not disappointing and means the reviews had little (if any) affect on sales. Franchises like GT aren't going to be hindered by a few points difference on Metacritic. Besides, next week's numbers should really give a better indication of just how good it's doing. |
If reviews have little affect on sales, then why did Forza Motorsport 3 sell 200k in Americas on GT5 opening week. A compeditor released 1 year ago, sold half the sales in Americas GT5 got week 1.
I bet you a lot of people (at least in Americas) were dissapointed with GT5 review scores, and went out and bought a 360 with Forza 3 instead.
I generally don't look at Metacritic because there are a lot of smaller website which are allowed to score games, and they often over-inflate reviews for specific games, and drop the bomb on games they don't like. When I refer to Review score, I refer to website by website. i'm still waiting on the GameTrailers review, but IGN gave GT5 an 8.5, where all past GT's were an 9.5 or a 9.8. Every Forza (1 - 9.5, 2 - 8.9, 3 - 9.4) scored above GT5, I'm sure that hurt sales.
GT5 is still going to sell well, but everyone laughed at my original 8.5 million prediction, and now looking at it, GT5 may not even sell that much. It's going to rely heavily on EMEAA sales because Forza will hurt Americas sales, and in Japan the franchise has been continuously loosing popularity.
I do not mean for my post to be insulting, but a lot of people mocked my initial 8.5 million prediction, so this is :P at it. That said GT5 is awesome, I still plan to get it, but mainly because I beat Forza 3 and I want to try out some average cars against each other (like cars friends of mine own).
What they should do in GT/Forza is make a unique race in free play. One where I could pick all my opponents cars. I would love to have an M3, C AMG, IS-F, Evora, 911 base, Cayman, NSX, Shelby Mustang GT 550, 370, Exige, Corvette, R8 V8, Elise SS, Evora SS, 911 S, GT-R R35 battle among others, on many different tracks. I mean if these games are approaching realism, then I want to see which cars would be faster in real world conditions.
