| DMeisterJ said: Wii has sold 8.5 million units in america and six plus in others. What you have to understand is that not many games make it to that mark on thier own. Yes other games have been packed in for other systems, but not launched with a pack in, or not been packed in for fifteen months now. the fact that it's at the top is nice, but if you take out the pack in numbers from america, then use the attach rate it has in other countries, it'd be a much smaller number. But there's no way to really know, as we don't know what the attach rate would be in america + others. That's fourteen million games sold because they're packed in. I think this is a blemish in the top ten. |
You must think the majority of the top 10 is a blemish, then.
SMB1: Probably almost 90% of its copies were sold as pack-ins.
Pokemon Red/Blue/Green: There were a few bundled GB deals with Pokemon included, but most of those sales are authentic... and multiple copies are owned by the same gamers in many cases, too thanks to the one-game-three-versions nature of the game
Tetris: At least 80% of the copies of this game were pack-in sales; Tetris sold the GameBoy more than anything else
Duck Hunt: Probably more than 90% of the copies of Duck Hunt sold were backed with SMB1.
Pokemon Gold/Silver: Again, multiple-carts-one-game syndrome means that more than a few bought both versions. But this was probably not packed in much.
Super Mario World: I'd estimate about 75% of SMW carts were pack-ins.
Super Mario Land: Also a pack-in for the GB, probably at least 66% of its sales were due to pack-ins
Super Mario Bros. 3: SMB3 was packed in only briefly with the NES, so perhaps 15% of its sales are due to that
Wii Sports: Thus far, about 85% of the copies of Wii Sports were sold as pack-ins.
Nintendogs: Pack-ins for this game have been only recent, so probably 10% or less.
As you can see, most of the top-selling games were pack-ins at some point, and almost every single one sold a significant portion of its copies in pack-in form. As you go further down the list, the status as "pack-in" gets less prominent, though. So kindly either stop complaining about Wii Sports being on the list, or start berating all of the OTHER pack-in games in the top 10 as well. Thank you.
