You should tell a mod so they can permaban the one you are currently using.

This is the correct source of action to take. Unfortunately, a mere mod can not go in and change usernames; the way they are what a user uses to log in, it would take quite a mucking around in the database to do. An admin MIGHT be willing to do it, but I'd not get your hopes up; they are the one ones who can get that deep into the system.
