Am I the only person finding these numbers confusing?

No, me too.

Well, you have to remember 2 important things.  First, the holiday boost will always swing in Wii's favor, as it is not only the cheapest console, but it also appeals more to children (the group people mostly shop for during the holidays).  And second, this is the time of the year sales are harder to estimate, as things just go a little crazy.  There are almost always adjustments shortly after the holidays settle back to normal trends.  Personally, I think VGC maybe overestimating the boost for the Wii, while underestimating the boost for the PS3 and 360.

It appeals to family's, I'm 50 and my daughter is 19 and my sons are 28 and 29..see no children  nice attempt at a jab

May 360 and ps3 would like to appeal to the whole family at holidays

?? Just because you don't have children doesn't mean his point is incorrect. I'm pretty sure there are many more out there like you, but the Wii is the most friendliest console to kids vs 360 and most certainly PS3. I don't think it was a jab just a general observation .. don't take such offense.

Well, I was going to respond, but you summed it up quite nicely.  Thanks.

its a family console it's not that hard to understand.    . Saying the Wii  mostly appeals to kids is incorrect.  So I guess it was a little jab or just a throw away line. I'm not insulted just having a conversation.  The Wii  set out to be like the PS2 which had a huge diverse fan base.

When the PS3 released sony made a mistake of going  after a narrow fan base of 15-25 year old males.
