Really? I really can't think off the top of my head of any incidents of OMG GET PSYCHED hyping from Polyphony Digital during GT5's development. They said what features it'd have, all of which ended up the game. I think people are confusing the hyping fans and the media have done with what PD has said.
A few reviews have marked GT5 down for not meeting the hype, but the hype was all media and fan generated, so how is that PD's fault?
Personally, I rated it a 9.5. Its definitely a GT game, it hasn't deviated from any of the strengths and weaknesses of previous GT games. Yeah it would expand the series fan base, but as a GT fan I don't really care. I got what I wanted. Its not perfect, the pixellated shadows, the music (wtf?) and the car selection (would rather half the cars but more variety, why can't I race a Fiat Punto, or a FG Falcon?), but overall definitely like the game.
