I am pretty sure that they would not of had capacity for 500,000 concurrent users either nor should they of expected it. Black Ops for example is largely purchased only for its only play with many never even playing the single player game and I am sure it had huge day one online numbers.

  


Maybe it has to do with which region you're in but I didn't need to be online when I set up my profile. My PS3 was completely disconnected when I set it up. I had heard about issues with the online making PS3s freeze up.
