The EU Parliament is actually fine. But they have no power, it is the unelected EU Commission that imposes all the crazy rules. But I think the powers of the EU should be restricted to free trade rules mostly. Not dictate national policy or immigration rules.
Greece and Iceland did need bailed out, or the country would have collapsed. So someone had to put up the cash and organise the pool. That would happen with or without the EU.
And the EU has done a small number of good things on human rights, antitrust suits and environmental policy. Not enough to outweight the bad (e.g. CAP payments).
We certainly do need the free trade rules, uniform labour rules, and common currency in order to compete with the US as an economy. Businesses find it much less attractive to enter 30 disparate markets rather than one big one.
