People seem to think that 360 is more popular than PS3 in America because 360 is made by an American company and PS3 by a Japanese company. Going by this logic the original Xbox should have outsold the PS2 by a good amount but I'm looking at the comparisons and the Xbox only won a couple weeks...seriously it's like 400 weeks that the PS2 finished on top and like 2-4 weeks that Xbox finished on top. Patriotism has nothing to do with it in America.

The reasons I can think of off the top of my head are as follows:

  1. A year head start plus much cheaper than PS3 which allows for MS to have easier and more affordable access to exclusive software right from the get-go.
  2. Xbox-Live is probably the biggest reason why it's so popular in America. We are in times where everybody has access to internet (by everyone I mean most people) and when you can play with your friends on the best online possible then that's where people are going to flock.
  3. MS markets MUCH more than Sony does (as somebody already mentioned here).
  4. Unsurprisingly another big reason why 360 is so big in America and the rest of the world (excluding Japan, even though it's done pretty well) is because of Sony. If the PS3 had lower price, easier to program for, built like a computer and had better software from the start then 360 wouldn't have had enough time to built traction.

MS has just outworked and outclassed (by that I mean outspent) Sony this generation, it has nothing to do with the fact that 360 is made by an American company.
