Because when it launched it had the best value if you wanted to play hd games (cheaper than ps3 for hd games). and at the end of the day that matters to americans more than some brand they are buying. Its all about the value. So unless you felt the need for blu ray movies (which it appers not as many did) you would of chosen the 360.
It is more expensive in the long run for online play, but you get so much more and the community is so much more vibrant that from a gamers perspective it would worth the cost. the value was there for it as it was directly related to gaming.

That's more an illusion than reality though, you are forgetting that all that money would yield you a good PC on top of not having to pay as much for games. Not to mention I mute other people most of the time when I played online because it was atrocious, very vibrant indeed though, in asshole meters.

I have a good pc. But if you wanted to play hd game son a console the 360 was a better value. no way around sorry. Prices are prices. On live is great for people who have friends/family they want to easily play with online. That is what I meant by community. It is so easy to party up and play games regardless of what ever you are currently doing everything is a xbox button away. Ps3 may be there now, i do not know as do not own one yet. I don't even think people are talking about pc's here any ways why bring it up? I also spent far more on my pc than on my xbox live so far.
