I don't blame Sony for completing the project without them. In fact, it was one of the worst moves Nintendo ever made, considering how popular Sony became, especially in the PS2 era.
But to say they were both improvements is not a compliment to Sony. Considering how much time between, I'd SERIOUSLY hope they'd be able to improve on the original design from 2006. The Wii was released 4 years ago, almost to the day. So after 4 years, they improved on the design of the Wii-mote? I'm sorry, I'm not impressed. I AM impressed with what Microsoft did with the Kinect. At least it's new technology. And before anyone thinks I'm a fan boy, I own every system made post Atari 2600. (Yes even the Panasonic 3D0, Neo-Geo, etc..) I own 2 PS3's, (One of the old design, one of the slims) and 6 X-Box 360's. (3 still work, 3 have red-ringed, and of the 3 I have now only one is an older generation) And only 1 Wii. My Wii gets the least play, my 360 gets the most.
I'm just pointing out some FACTS, that people tend to overlook.
Fact: The more systems a company sells, the less households they have available to sell to.
Fact: The less likely a system is to fail, the less they will sell overall. (Try to tell me the 360 doesn't get a ton of extra unit sales from RROD)
Fact: The Sony PS3 is their least innovative system, and the Move improves on 4 year old technology, and barely so, while the Kinect by the 360 is an actual improvement and it's actually innovative.
If not for being the only system with Blue-Ray, (Microsoft failed hard backing HD-DVD instead of getting a Blue-Ray player) the PS3 wouldn't have sold NEARLY the number of units they have.
And btw, the undisputed king of them all is the Nintendo DS/DS Lite/DSi/DSi XL. So Nintendo is FAR from hurting.
Oh, and throw in the fact that Nintendo is the only manufacturer who made money off of system sales right from the start, while the other two were losing money on system sales for a VERY long time.
Don't get defensive. It's just the facts.
