Heh, even an old classic like Unreal has some levels quite linear compared to other classics. I too don't like linearity, I want to be able to find more than one way to travel through a level. What Doom and Hexen did is even more incredible considering that their tech didn't allow any walkable part to be above another one. Duke Nukem 3D and Quake removed this limitation and the Duke had even more incredible levels. Tech improves, I'm very happy when it's used for more than just eye-candy.
