I kind of feel sorry for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. It is the best NfS game for ages, yet its going to suffer under GT 5

Not really though, they appeal to slightly different markets where one likes Arcade racers with zero customization and realism and the other the direct opposite. They are very different games, it would be like a Timesplitters game losing sales because of Half-Life (kind of, only even more different). Most GT fans I know get easily bored of Arcade racing and the lack of depth and realism and most Arcade racing fans I know (Burnout, NFS etc) don't appreciate GT for its depth and immersion. There are a few who like both (I do) but these games mostly appeal to different people.

I would say there are quite a few people who like a variety of racers, but they don't entirely overlap. Having said that, I certainly don't think Hot Pursuit will get the sales it deserves in comparison to previous NfSs, and I think GT 5 will have some effect at the very least
