Technically Sony can't send more than Walmart orders. Walmart has to pay for the order. Its illegal to make them pay for more than they ordered.
That'd be like going through McDonald's drive-through and saying you want a Double Cheeseburger. When you get to the window they hand you 20 of them and ask you to pony up the cash. It doesn't work that way.
Is it possible that it happens? Sure. It just doesn't seem like a very likely scenario. I have a good friend who is an electronics manager at Walmart, and he says Sony can't fulfill orders right now. MS on the other hand has been contacting Walmart headquarters asking if they can take so many units... before Walmart even orders them. Isn't THAT overshipping?
