@ allaboutthegames about ESPN. I have several reasons for not liking ESPN and they don't have to do with Disney or being irrational.
Sportscenter used to be a fantastic highlights show. One day a man named Craig Kilborn was hired there and decided that cracking jokes every other second and spitting out 756 catchphrases a show was the thing to do. It worked for him, but all of the anchors that have followed him and do it need to stop. If you don't have anything witty to say and are forcing it, then don't do it.
Many of the "highlights" that they show appeal to the lowest common denominator. I don't need to see everyone of Ocho Cinco's touchdown celebrations or every time that a point guard makes a behind the back pass for an assist when a chest pass would have worked perfectly fine. Men like Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, and Barry Sanders just handed the ball to the official and acted like they had scored before and men like John Stockton hold the all time assist record in the NBA by making the "boring" pass. Athletes see the type of crap that ESPN puts on their show and say to themselves that are going to make a "Sportscenter moment". This leads to moments of jackassery that I really don't need to see and makes sports in general more dislikable to me. Oh, I almost forgot; they also like to show the guy that says something brash, arrogant, and stupid over and over. This leads to more of that sort of thing too. For some reason I have seen much more of Terrell Owens over the years on ESPN than Marvin Harrison or Larry Fitzgerald. Why is that?
They constantly cover the same things. This is fine if you are a fan of the Yankees, Miami Heat, or Brett Favre. If you aren't, then you're shit outta luck. Speaking of Lebron, them having a "special" about where he was deciding to go fed into his massively huge ego and said, "Hey, it's cool to have a massively huge ego (even if you've never won a title)".
Also, they did get rid of hockey. Ask anyone in the city where I live (Chicago) if hockey's a popular sport. It might not be a popular sport where you live, but I don't think that no one cares about Nascar since most people don't in my region. I'm sure that it's probably different where you live.
I know that this was long winded, but I hope that I answered for you why I dislike ESPN. I don't hate them, but I do strongly dislike them.
Oh... and Chris Berman's nicknames are stupid.
