Android still has its issues in those areas, such as carrier enforced apps (which also mean delays for updates) as well as very few phones that are just stock Android, most have the manufacturers' own skin on, which can be removed, but there are still issues that.
And of course the issues of fragmentation....
But the only real issue with Android at the moment is the marketplace, its quality really does need to improve
