because the wii was/is 1/4 the price of the ps3 at launch, and currently half the price of the ps3

I think your math is screwed up. The Wii launched at 25,000 yen, the PS3 was available for 60,000 yen (60gb) and 50,000 yen (20gb). The PS3 never had a 100,000 yen price point ( $1000). Plus the Wii didn't have the pack-in Wii Sports game as well (like the USA/Europe)

The Wii currently sells for about 20,000 yen, while the PS3 currently sells for 30,000 yen (160gb) and 35,000 yen (320gb).
