Uhm, no. I spoke to a french friend about this and In italian we have the identical expression: "gioco di società" or literally "social game" or "game of society". It includes boardgames, card and dice games but also what is usually indicated as party games in English. Pinata, charades, bingo, madlibs-like narrative games, etc are all "jeu de société" even though they are not board games.
