Because everyone figures that Nintendo is the most likely to be the first one out with a new console next gen. The 360 and PS3 are finally profitable, unless the 360 and PS3 go another 5 years, then both will end up in the red for this generation.
Nintendo, on the other hand, has been making money from the start. HD is becoming more important and they no longer have the "motion control" advantage. So it makes sense for them to come out with an HD console with some new inovations.
