Hmm, at first I too thought the title of this thread was sarcastic.. But after reading your post I have to agree. I can see how agonizingly difficult parts of the game, like the purple coin-collection games, daredevil runs and other stuff can be made way easier with the help of a second player. Hmm.
Too bad the friend I usually play SMG with is most of the time bent on giving me as hard a time as he possibly can. :p
