 That's the killer part for MS.  They aren't going to convince even casuals that don't like the complex controllers to shift over.  And they are going to get their hardcore gamers coming down on them for going 'Wii-wantabee'.  Even most Wii games (so far) for more complex gaming go with buttons versus motion control.

If they do it just as a 'demo' for their next box (2010/11?) and to see if they can pull in casuals, that is one thing.  But as a primary contoller for the X360 and its future games?  Unlikely that would succeed if that is their goal.
