I think it depends on whether Microsoft is happy with letting hte Wiikeep the PS3 in check while trying to be profitable this gen or whether they want to
spend money in a pricewar to try to sink the PS3 (as MS views the PS3 as potential future competition to their Windows/Office monopolies).

No, but the strength of Microsoft's monopolies is their interdependance and their prevalence both at work and at home. As such, weakening the home front makes it easier to weaken the whole.
