Microsoft has officially announced that the Fall Update for Xbox LIVE will be rolled out on November 1, just three days before Kinect is released.

The announcement was made by email explaining that the update to the Xbox 360 was mandatory and it will take approximately five to ten minutes for it download and install.

Xbox 360 owners who decline the update will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE and thus will not have access to any of its features.

The Fall Update is not only bringing support for Kinect but also brings an enhanced user interface, ESPN 3, Zune Music, Netflix search functionality and a new voice communications codec.  The update is more of an evolution of the existing dashboard and that's fine.  We've been using it as part of the preview program and have enjoyed it over the older version, especially ESPN 3.

I would personally like to see some more of that ESPN feature.
