This is true, but by the end of it Gohan was stronger than Goku even at Super Sayan level 3. Though I don't know why Gohan couldn't transform after that power up. I'm still not that far with my seasons and japanese watching to know what the explanation was (There's so much that never got explained in the english dub it's ridiculas)
