Is the 3DS using the "new" WiFi Direct technology?

Sounds like it to me.  No matter what game you're playing, if your 3DS detects another 3DS, all your save files and all their save files can automatically communicate.  Games won't have to sell crazy amounts like Dragon Quest 9 to make great use of the Tag features.
