Actually, looking at shipment figures I am still doubtful.... the fiscal Q1 for this year was higher than the previous (obviously) but I don't see why their following quarters will be any bigger, more likely overlal will be slightly smaller.
As such, they shipped 13 million in the last FY, after Q1 they are 1.3 million ahead in this year... assuming the rest of this year is identical to last year (I wonder if that is likely what with last year being the slim PS3 launch) they still fall short of 15 million by 700k.
Of course they could fiddle with the figures a bit like they have done before (they met their FY2007 target, but missed the 2008 target except that the 2007 figures were adjusted moving a shipment forward so that they just met their 2008 target too)
So maybe come May 2011 the 13 million figure that was reported last May will suddenly be 12.3 million (as they can't directly lie though I doubt it would be possible to move 700k worth of shipments)

I'm confused these companies (VGC/NPD/GfK ) don't report shipped figures but sold to consumers in selectives markets, and I would think if I wanted actual shipment numbers I would trust the company that actually ship them.

Well I think the problem has been that Sony is more active (than MS and especially Nintendo) in markets where there is no tracking, thus PS2 and PSP shipments have been way ahead of any attempt at a cumulative sales tracking figure (whether that be VGC or combining the GfK markets with NPD and Media Create) I haven't been following where the PS3 has had official releases though but it must also be selling well in some untracked markets.
I wasn't saying their shipment figures are wrong... Sony can't lie about them, the truth can be warped (as with the problem I mentioned in my first post about a shipment moving between FYs... as well as the whole "production shipments" versus "sales" thing back in 2007... though that was less about Sony and more that many forum members didn't understand what meant what) I was just saying that as I hadn't seen the shipment figures at that time I wasn't sure what their path to 15 million was looking like so far.
