| RolStoppable said: All facts considered, four million for SMG2 make the game a failure so far and that's not going to change in the long term. That's how it is. Just like my "Super Mario Galaxy was a failure and Nintendo is to blame" thread went through, despite the game selling around nine million copies. These two games failed, because Nintendo did set unreasonable expectations for them, hence why Nintendo is to blame. What Nintendo wants is that 3D Mario replaces 2D Mario, most likely because their developers prefer to make the 3D games. But they failed on all four attempts (64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2) and it's all the more clear now that a new 2D Mario exists on the same console as a (or actually two) new 3D Mario(s). The situation becomes all the more dire, if we factor in hardware moving capabilities of 2D Mario vs. 3D Mario. Both Galaxy games failed on their mission. Learn to live with it. |
That's actually not true; according to at least one interview, Miyamoto expected the original Galaxy to sell in the neighborhood of ten million copies. That's not a replacement for 2D Mario at all, though you could argue that it's (so far) failed to meet those numbers.
