49.8%
I remember that day, and I had predicted the wii would NEVER reach 50% market share, and was called a lunatic...
especially by john lucas, who said the wii would force sony out of this generation, and avinash takash, saying how the wii would outsell the entire playstation family put together...
|
Yeah lol, I vaguely remember reading about someone who believed a 300$ console could turn this generation around.
LOL, good old times. The denial about 3rd place is now gone.
Ontopic: I think I saw it over 50% on during the first PS3 year, were 360 sales were meh and ps3 was being trash talked for one of the most disastrous systems ever. But then it went down pretty quick when 360 got some steam.
|
it was turning things around, until the wii dropped to $199, and now price cuts wont work as well as they used to since wii is already at mass market price, sure a price cut would help boost hardware sales, signifcantly maybe, but it wont be as strong as an affect as a drop from 299 to 199 for the ps3.
|
299 to 199 price cut wouldn't be half as strong as a redesign for the market leader console this gen. A redesign made wonders for the HD twins, it would have a better effect on the most sold console.
You know, companies just come up with some wicked moves out of nowhere to push sales.
My bet, as I said in another thread, is that Nintendo is already very pleased about the money they squeezed out of the Wii and now while Sony and Microsoft are playing catch up on the motion control market that once they trash talked about, Nintendo is planning its next home console, with pockets full of money and zero losses.
The Wii could even go under 40% market share now, it doesn't matter anymore. The damage is done.
|
lol "damage is done" what damage? Loss of 3rd partys that comes with market leader? I don't think so. MS and Sony have it all right now, 3rd party support, HD, Motion control, powerful systems and profits.
|
The damage from stopping Microsoft and Sony from having a monopoly with their respective machines.
Sure they have all that, but they haven't recovered from the huge losses yet. Especially Microsoft, they've been in the dark since the first xbox.
Meanwhile at Nintendo, they're burning money to get warm. They can launch right now a next gen console. it would be ok. Sony and Microsoft can't release an home console right now. Infact they're praying that Nintendo doesn't pull of a new next gen console so soon so they can recover the most losses as possible.
Its damage in the sense of the position Nintendo put Microsoft and specially Sony.
|
Given the proof Wii has appeald to a much wider audience, of which 360 and PS3 would never have reached if the wii existed or not, no Wii hasn't stopped them from gaining a monopoly.
And nor do I think they're much bothered about previous losses going forward, as long as they're making profits and doing so for the foreseeable future, that's mainly what they care about.
I'm not surprised you think the next Nintendo console will pull off first place without fail, thing is if they bring out a a wii with upgraded specs, it won't do anywhere near what you think it will, and who's to say their next "innovation" will set the world alight? Who's to say they're capable? Soooo quick to forget about the gamecube.
Sony put themselves in the hole their in.
