blah blah blah I skipped to the end after almost every post was a variation of "it's a no skill, hollow, unrealistic, piece-o-shit game".

Ok maybe its not 100% realistic, or you don't have to lead your target, or the points go up by 100 instead of just 1, but how does any of that mean its not fun?

People (casuals especially) play games for fun.  I know crazy concept right?

COD is an fun and addictive shooter.  People love unlocking things, and COD is really good at making sure you get points or weapons or icons for each little thing you do.

 

I guess in conclusion, I want to say that games are played for entertainment value (aka fun) and while COD may not be super innovative or super realistic, it does a really good job at being fun.

And fun things tend to be popular.
