Ignoring Retroids, Super Metroid was outsold worldwide by Metroid, Metroid II, and Metroid Fusion.

In the US alone it was outsold by the same games, while actually being tied by Metroid Prime Hunter.

Technically the original Metroid sold less, due to being split between two platforms.  Metroid FDS sold 1.35m (VGC) and Metroid NES sold 1.38m (VGC). :P

I wasn't paying attention about Super Metroid though, did Reggie refer to that?

Yes, he said that games hadn't broken the 1.5-2 million bar since the SNES, when Super Metroid did not break that bar.
