For the slow ones among you, N6 stands for Nintendo's next home console.

The circumstances surrounding Skyward Sword are scarily similar to Twilight Princess five years ago. Third party developers are abandoning Nintendo's system and, by the look of things, Nintendo themselves are preparing for the final wave of software. Sure, the Wii sold about four times as many units as the Gamecube after four years, but despite that both consoles find themselves in a similar situation. The Wii doesn't have much of a future, so it's time for Nintendo to introduce their next generation machine, possibly by the end of 2011 already.

When announced at E3 2004, Twilight Princess was planned to release sometime during 2005, probably at the end of that year (didn't happen). Skyward Sword was confirmed to be in development at E3 2009 and set for a 2010 holiday release, but had to be delayed for another few months, just like TP. Eventually TP became a launch title for the Wii while still getting a release for its original platform, the Gamecube. It was the GC's last big game and the Wii's first. What speaks against SS getting the same treatment? Not much, really.

The biggest argument against it is likely the control scheme, but I doubt that the eighth gen brings as much of a radical change as this current one and N6 is probably going to have backwards compability with the Wii anyway. Another six month delay for SS doesn't seem implausible, it would be nothing new for the Zelda series after all.

Is this a joke or a serious prediction? I suppose it's hard to tell. In fact, even I am not sure about this one. So let's talk about the probability of this happening.

Delayed until 2012 is unlikely
