Plus comfort zones are often a bad thing with creativity, as that is the easiest way to lead to stagnation.


I think Epic is one the exceptions because they want to sell their engine so making a game with good graphics is a must. 

I don't think being comfortable with platform is a negative because if you know the system well enough you don't have to worry about bugs and glitches and can focus on the core game-play.  You can also start adding stuff like local co-op and such if you've refined your engine well enough to add it without sacrificing graphics.
