So Nintendo is supposed to copy the features of their competitors until they get the sales?

So it's good to be unoriginal when it comes to "core" games?

No Nintendo doesn't need to copy the competition. They need to offer most of the same services in a uniquelly Nintendo way.

Co-op gameplay is like saying companies copied multiplayer from Pong. Nobody is suggesting Nintendo steal the achiement and trophy systems from Sony and Microsoft, but they should give gamers some sort of reward system. Co-op and multiplayer online gameplay should now be standard and a ranking/achievement/trophy system should be added.

I remember when Nintendo showed off New Super Mario Bros for the Wii. After the trailer I was sure 99% positive that Nintendo would incorporate online co-op. I turned out to be wrong, Nintendo is going co-op more and more with upcoming titles like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Kirby Epic Yarn, but why no online co-op? these games would be amazing if they also had online co-op.

Pachter is right Nintendo does need to exsert itself in the market as being online competitive. They have a browser they have NetFlix they have Virtual Console and WiiWare now all they need is a rewards system (Notice I never said ranking system, Nintendo should find a new and unique way to reward gamers) online co-op and multiplayer (First party titles lead the way for third parties) and lets not forget tweaking the friend code system to be more consumer friendly.

Lost the argument right there.

Yah if I read someone else say Pachter was right I'd right them off too. But you know while he is clueless most of the time sometimes he does have the right ide4a. Just 99% of the time he's completely wrong.

Now many are saying that local multiplayer has sucked due to all the companies adopting online multiplayer. You are absolutely right. However Nintendo did everything right with MarioKart:Wii and if they just used the same formula for all their games they would have a better network then Sony and MS, with the exception of rewards (Achievments).

As for local multiplayer sucking for the last nine years, did the poster even have a GameCube or a Wii? Offline multiplayer was preserved by Nintendo in all its glory their are plenty of offline games to be played. MarioParty, Mario Kart, SmashBros, F-Zero , FF:CC. There were more then enough offline multiplayer games.

In my opinion Nintendo has already done it right they just haven't stuck to the award winning formula. Online like in MarioKart with every game would be amazing, an achievment system like that found in SmashBros:Brawl would also be awsome incorporated into most games. Online co-op for games like DKC:R , Kirby:Epic Yarn and New Super Mario Bros would also kick butt.

Nintendo just has to balance the two, offering both online and offline content. Many developers are choosing just to support online these days, I think that is a mistake. But its just as bad to not offer online at all!

Okay, that's a better argument.

I think Nintendo has made it clear they want better online, just in a distinctive way that also supports gaming as a social thing instead of a competative thing.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
