(warning racist joke. I am actualy not racist at all) Concerning the first item, when I played around with it at a friend's house he had me flying around for a bit. I just assumed this was essential to the game. If I ever got a PS3 and Warhawk, I would definitely need to skip the flying part. 
Concerning the second item... not going anywhere near that one...
