DS sales are driven by parents picking up something for kids to waste time with during boring tasks for kids.  I have 3 kids and they get to play DS when they are on long car rides or waiting like at a Dr. office sort of things.  No way I would pickup 3 of those until they are closer to $100.

How many DS/DSi/DSiLL do your kids have?

3 kids 3 DS.  Does that seem extreme to you? I dont know any parents that have the kids share DS's.

back in my day all we had was a can and a rock to play with. lol

Believe me when we travel (plane, train or car) having a DS or another hand held device makes the trip a great deal easier.  I think this is one of the reasons why software tie-ratio on DS is low.  Trips are a mix of DS gameplaying, reading and more traditional games. Our kids dont get to play the DS anytime they want.  My sister in law would bring her kids out to dinner with us and her son would be heads down in his Gameboy the whole time and we said never would our kids do that.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
