"Successful enough" is quite an elastic concept. Add that they won't put an incredible effort on games for two late peripherals. But nevertheless, they want to experiment and see how is life in motion control land when you haven't to compete with Nintendo. And just like Sony and MS, also 3rd parties need to seriously experiment motion control before next gen starts, when EVERY platform will have that feature, and sure, in many cases it's their fault to have allowed Nintendo to leave them behind, but even a bigger reason to avoid that it happen again. Then there could be a lot more reasons. One could be to force Nintendo to help them or teach them some secrets about how to make successful games for Wii. Another reason could be that they just came to the conclusion that both core and casual Nintendo fans don't love 3rd parties very much and whatever they do, how much hard they try, they aren't Nintendo for them, so why bother.
