The market leader should be able to combat those efforts easily, ala PS2. If Xbox or gamecube got redesigned it still would have got 60% plus of the market. It's no excuse using excuses! Market leader being last is BAD. |
Did you honestly expect the Wii to sell strongly this year despite next to no third party support and no hardware movers for the first 9 months?
Just remember that 360 and even PS3 sales were beginning to decline and would be selling poorly as well if not for the redesigns.
People on this site tend to only judge success in terms of relative to competitors, and on a week to week basis, but if you take a step back and look at the grand scheme of things, Wii has outsold Nintendo's previous best selling console, the NES, on it's way to outsell the PS1, and is still tracking ahead of PS2, despite only one $50 price drop, no redesign, and barely any third party support.
Tell me, why is it so BAD for the market leader to be in last by a few hundred thousand for a couple of months, when it is 30 million ahead of its nearest competitor? It's not like third party support is going to decline, it's already about as bad as it can be. You are making a big deal out of nothing.
