Well I would say "No we should not talk about consoles as doomed" but its simply not true. What about the DreamCast I know Sega fans got really upset when people called it doomed they argued it was still selling software and a new GameGear was on its way to save Sega. Dillusional people said DreamCast couldn't die, yet by golly it did.
The same thing could have been said about the PS3, prior to price cuts and newer models the PS3 had a small edge to the DreamCast. It would have Dreamcasted as we call it these days if Sony didn't cut the price and release new models. Infact with the millions being lost thanks to price cuts it sort of is doomed.
Is the PSP doomed, now it is but its been five years and honestly it sold way superior to any other handheld that has ever taken on Nintendo. Was it doomed from the beginning? Depends on what you mean by doomed, doomed to fail at uprooting Nintendo? , Doomed to fail as a platform? Doomed to fail with third party sales?
In a way each console is doomed, the Wii is doomed when it comes to getting third party support, X-360 is doomed to second place in the console war, PS3 is doomed to undersell PS2 or PSP.
The second we deny any faults in our favorite platforms is the day this forum needs to shut down. Because lets face it, this is VGChartz and talking doom and gloom sales figures is completely ordinary infact its what this forum does best. Discussing which ways our platforms are doomed helps us to better understand the industry.
If we don't beat Michael Pachter at his own game who will? Isn't that what this site is all about?
