Classic NES had a redesign, SNES also. But I don't know how successful they were, if at all.
Wii redesign might help. The Black Wii didn't seen to help much, even though it looks better (I want one). But the problem with it (for those looking for a second/replacement wii) is that you cannot transfer most of the DLC and the fact that it comes with games you already have.
Software, well I think that is Wii's major problem right now. first party titles sell well and move some HW, but third parties are needed to keep a good flow of games throughout the year. After last awesome Wii christmas, I was expecting a shift from 3rd parties but it actually went the other way.
