edit: It seems that MC has FFVIII first week  at 2.504.044 units. I took numbers from vgchartz... Anyway crazy sales for Pokemon.

According to both Media Create and Famitsu, yes.

It's really within margin of error. vgchartz has the highest first week numbers for FFVIII so here it actually could keep its top spot.

But it won't. Both Media Create and Famitsu have Pokemon tracked higher than Final Fantasy. Famitsu in fact has it tracked well over 100k higher.

"Released on Saturday and Famitsu have just now posted the numbers for the first weekend. This makes it the biggest first week in JP sales history, in half the normal time (2 days as opposed to the normal 4). Wowzers all round.
