Did you ever play any Bioware games before KoToR? Dragon Age is very much an old school RPG and caters greatly to the tastes of PC RPG players from the late 90s. It's very much like Baldurs Gate rather than Bioware's modern games, which isn't that suprising since it was > 5 yrs in the making. As for the characters, I thought they were quite entertaining, just as much as Mass Effects tbh. The troll character (I assume you mean Sten) is meant to represent a very different culture and he's there to challenge the player in understanding him and getting his back story. And what about Zevran? That little gay elf killer was both disturbing and hilarious! I agree the story was cliched though I think that was partly on purpose as it was the first fantasy world they'd created (before Mass Effect's). There is still a lot to cover for future games as they spent nearly 2 yrs of development solely on Dragon Age world and lore. |
No I haven't played a Bioware WRPG before KOTOR. I am new to WRPG's, KOTOR was my first one, then it was Oblivion. I am not a late 90's WRPG player.
And the characters you mentioned, Zevran, he was the other good one, but not funny, Mordin Solus is funnier. The Mass Effect characters were far more interesting and had much much better back stories.......they had compelling back stories, I mean the assassin from ME2, his back stories that he used to tell you were so awesome, the way his species can REMEMBER any moment thats taken place in a photographic way, THATS an awesome and interesting back story......not the ones in Dragon Age. Not to mention the world of Mass Effect was awe-inspiring especially some of the things I've read up on ME2 in its datalog.
There may be more to cover in future games and Bioware is taking correct steps by getting rid of that boring battle system. This kind of game isn't what I expected from Bioware!
