Very important. I hated Geralt in The Witcher and threw the game away after just a few hours because the character is so un-sympathetic.
Dragon Age 2 will probably rock but I'm a bit worried that I won't feel very strongly towards the Hawke guy (main hero). I mean the focus of the story will be on Hawke, while in DA: Origins the focus was on the other party members such as the lovely Alistair and Morrigan while my imagination filled in the rest.
If they let me create my own I can decide for myself if I want to be lovable or a hideous character.
