Well in 1994 I was 28 years old and was a gamer since I got an Atari 2600 from Service Merchandise in 1978 so I was around. 

My take is that very rarely does a game really  push consoles for any extended period of time.  I dont believe that DKC made the masses run out and pickup a SNES.  It sold 49 million consoles and DKC sold like 8 million. 

When people say NSMBWii sold 15 million copies I say so what. That doesnt mean the last 15, 10,5, 4,3, 2, 1 Wii console sales were because of NSMBWii.  They purchase a Wii for the library and the expectation that more new good games will come. 



Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
