I don't get why everybody raves about Reach and GT5 pushing HD consoles then act like somehow Wii is impervious to hardware movers..

Because we are talking them bumping the console a couple of hundred thousand. That isnt enough to change the trajectory.  As someone else said in a couple of weeks the Halo Reach bump will be basically over.

A good quality lineup with additions throughout the year maintains sales.  It also gets back to last year.  Wii sales jumped when the price dropped, but the Nintendo fans say it was because of NSMBWii which came nearly 2 months later.  If Nintendo doesnt drop the price this year you will see.  And what you will see will be pretty standard climb to holiday levels in November and December.

Nobody is expecting Donkey Kong to magically bump Wii sales to heaven all by itself. But the Wii didn't get a single million seller in 2010 so far besides Mario Galaxy 2 which didn't move hardware for obvious reasons. And starting October it gets those releases almost weekly with two potential 10 million sellers (Donkey Kong and Wii Party).

Donkey Kong won't bring a miracle to the console but people are clearly underestimating it. I guess most of you don't remember the craze that Donkey Kong Country brought to the SNES back in the day. And people didn't buy it because of its graphics (that's stupid, this was made up by people on internet forums. Of those 10 million Donkey Kong players maybe half a million bought it because of the graphics. The rest couldn't even tell) but because of the co-op gameplay. That game is magic to play through in co-op because you can always switch players. It's great to play with your "casual" friends or little brother. (And still most people never finished it )

Donkey Kong sold faster than Mario back in the day. It just didn't sell more because there was a sequel released just a year later and the SNES was already losing steam. The SNES already had Mario World and Mario Allstars when Donkey Kong was released and the game still pushed many consoles.
