"My guess is unlike film studios that are really stuck with a model that goes through theatrical distribution and takes a signification amount of the profit away, if we were to go to an audience and say 'We have this great hour and a half of linear video that we'd like to make available to you at a $20 or $30 price point,' you'd have the biggest opening weekend of any film ever," he said.

This is flat out dumb.  Theatrical releases taking profit away?  Yes, Avatar went back into theaters to lose profit, and straight to DVD releases do gangbusters.  There is a reason that movies have theatrical releases: exposure and high ticket prices.

Twenty to thirty dollars?  Who the hell is going to buy the equivalent of a B Grade movie, or worse, for top dollar?  Talk to me when it hits the $5 bargin bin, or better yet, never.  There are so many great movies out there I can buy for $5 to $10, rent, or just stream for free on my Netflix.
