PS3 may never catchup to the 360

Brand name, functionality, and first party recognition all seem to have much longer legs in the playstation family then anything non-halo related on the 360 :/ Considering the fact also that the 360 was on the market an entire year without competition and it only managed a 7m lead on the PS3? I think unless America buys 3x the ammount of hardware that the "others" and Japan buy, the 360 sadly has no chance at taking second place.

Here's the deal - the PS3 is beating the 360 in two areas - others and Japan. And class, let's look at Japan. It's leading the 360 by a million. Few 360s are sold - but the PS3 isn't putting up huge numbers either. As far as others, let MS do a price cut - to Wii numbers - and I'll beat the Euro folks will bite. Add to the fact that MS hasn't advertised in the region and you may see a trend or two.

The PS3 is still behind - and so what if it captures the other regions. One day soon, folks will wake up and say "WTF?!! Where are the killer games, the apps? So what my PS3 can find the cure to cancer. F this - I want to find the cure to more games!'

The tiny gains the PS3 is making is like a washed-up prize fighter whipping the tar out of a 3rd grader and saying 'I'm back, fools!'

 

 

Yeah the problem with most of that though is that the ps3 just passed it's first year into it's lifespan XD Meaning the 360 only had a year of gain on "killer aps." You and I both know when it comes to games, EVERY console will have more than enough to choose from.

From the CURRENT standpoint I completely agree with you! The problem is, each console is WAY to early in lifespan to tell anything, so all we have to judge it by is momentum. The problem for MS in this direction though, is that it doesn't have any in Europe or Japan. Like you said MS just isn't marketing how it should be in these regions, that paired with the fact that the PS3 has it's "killer apps" that appeal in ALL country/regions it's not exactly sensational news for the 360. The fact that PS3 software is already outselling the 360's in "others" with some million and change less hardware units on the market is not a good sign of whats to come.

So the fact that these "little gains" are already taking place this early on in the generation, it's already looking like the tiny drops are going to make HUGE ripples. FACT already exists that the PS3 sells more software with less units in Europe, and Japan is damn well a lost cause for the 360. Unless MS miraculously starts "releasing the hounds" in these two markets, they don't stand a chance this gen. America simply isn't big enough.

Now will MS lose money this gen? Probably not, their already making money on Hardware, and I'm pretty sure they'll keep the machine around for a while longer than they did the original xbox, and for us Americans were going to get some GREAT western developed titles on it, but will it take second place this gen? I'm EXTREMELY doubtfull of this.
