It was nice of EA to try adding a few key new features in every annual release instead of just updating the roster, but there's really only so much innovation you can bring to a sports game with an annual turnover.
There just aren't enough fans of most sports to support an annual release schedule. How about you build online roster updates into the game and try a 2-3 year dev cycle instead of forcing this year's game to compete with last year's marginally less refined game. A lot of consumers are perfectly happy to buy last year's game at half the price.
