So what you're saying Soleron, is you want a WM version of the first Legend of Zelda only without being constrained by the need for a raft or a lantern?

Yes. I'm trying to explain exactly what parts of Zelda 1 I want emphasised in the new game. The qualities I listed are pretty much what is different between Zelda 1 and all 3D Zelda games.

Such a Zelda would have to be brought up to date - not only graphically, but the modern feel of a game - more leniency on saving/dying, gaining an overworld teleport faster in the game and in-game map that you build up. The style of dungeon rooms, NPC caves, and enemy AI need not be as repetitive as the orginal and should vary to keep it interesting. If I just say "I want Zelda 1 in 3D with M-Plus" then people will assume some sort of remake that keeps those things the same for the sake of nostalgia.

I'm not completely set on the need-no-items thing, it's just a design ideal that could be bent/broken in actual production. Just to emphasise that it is not linear in item order and all of the items have a use but don't have to function as a key/lock.
