Pretty much this. They should've just focused on the single player.

You two have similar avatars lol but anyway I agree, the first game was a very welcomed horror game because it gave atmosphere and a feeling of being alone, this mode is basically Left 4 Dead meets get and defend the objective, and the singleplayer is the same way, killing the aloneness, it's a major issue I had with the Wii game as well (other than the game sucking for a lightgun game)
